AO offers professionally guided trips on 10 rivers, three of which are only 30 minutes outside of Auburn. Four local options include class II for families with young kids and class III beginner, both on the South Fork American; class III-IV adventurous beginner and experienced, Middle Fork American,; class IV intermediate-advanced, springtime only, North Fork American. We are happy to help you select a trip best suited for your group. Reservations are required.

This museum presents an overview of Placer County history from the early Nisenan inhabitants through the latter half of the 20th century. It also includes the Placer County Gold collection, the renowned Pate Collection of American Indian artifacts and the original Thomas Kinkade painting "Auburn Centennial".

Built in 1851 as the Traveler’s Rest Hotel, the Bernhard House has been welcoming visitors for over 150 years. Filled with artifacts and furnishings from a bygone era, the Bernhard House transports visitors to a simpler time. The Bernhard Museum also serves as home to the third grade Living History Program.

The Gold Rush Museum is still under construction, but is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 - 4:00. There are several finished exhibits including our indoor gold panning trough, which is now wheelchair accessible.

The Griffith Quarry Park and Museum is located in the town of Penryn at the edge of the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Though gold brought thousands of men to Placer County, another rock was being mined in this region: granite.
